WILLARD, Mo. -- Lady Cardinals Tennis play spoiler in Willard's Senior Night Tuesday. The team travelled to the Tiger's and left with a close 5-4 victory.
Doubles
#1 Maecy Beverlin/Katelyn Cox beat Emerson Baxter/Hadley McNatt 8-4.
#2 Lorelai Fisher/Sadae Reid beat Abigail Highfill/Emily Highfill 8-4.
#3 Aubrey Peterson/Aranza Gamez beat Madeline Polites/ Makenna Coffer 9-7.
Singles
#1 Beverlin beat Baxter 8-4.
#2 Peterson lost 8-1 to McNatt.
#3 Fisher lost 8-5 to Caitlyn Sherman.
#4 Reid beat A. Highfill 8-4
#5 Cox lost 8-6 to Polites.
#6 Gamez lost 8-5 to E. Highfill.
"Tonight's win was huge. Absolutely huge. Our girls came out strong and took all three doubles matches. While we did still struggle in singles, those wins in doubles gave us the overall advantage," head coach Stephany Pace said. "To my knowledge, we haven't beat Willard head-to-head in a couple decades. We could not be more excited or more proud of our girls. JV played lights out tonight, too."
The Varsity Lady Cards return to action tomorrow in the Fort Scott, Kansas Invitational.
