Lady Cardinals Senior Night ends with 3-0 victory

WEBB CITY, Mo. -- It was a special senior night for the Lady Cardinals Soccer team Thursday. Some seniors may have played their final minutes on John Roderique Field, while also getting a glimpse of the future. One senior in particular, Kirra Long, had the opportunity to take her last steps on to the field in her Cardinal uniform. Long's season was cut short earlier in the year due to injury in the basketball season.

On the other hand, Freshman Sammy Galardo led the way in a 3-0 victory against Neosho. Galardo finished with 2 goals on the night, with junior Avery Allen tallying a goal of her own.

Tied at nil at halftime, Webb City held consistent offensive pressure through the first half. Avery Allen had a handful of shots on goal. Sammy Galardo also assisted Avery Pogue for another early shot on goal.

With rain coming down and a rainbow overlooking Cardinal Stadium, Galardo took advantage of some chaos at the net and nailed a strike into the net to earn the Cardinals first score in the 42nd minute.

And when it rains, it pours. Avery Allen scored her lone goal of the night in the 43rd minute with a long shot and favorable deflection off the Wildcat goalie's hands. The Lady Cardinals were now up 2-nil in the first 3 minutes of the 2nd half.

The rain quieted down as the 2nd half progressed, as did the action on the field. Finally, in the 72nd minute, Galardo earned her second goal of the night.

Galardo's goal in the last minutes put Webb City up 3-nil, and the Lady Cardinals ultimately won the match.

Webb City improved to 7-8 on the season. The team travels to Joplin Tuesday, May 13th for their regular season finale.
