CARL JUNCTION, Mo. -- Lady Cardinals Soccer today opened up their season with a tough win against Carl Junction. Their previous match went into extra time, with Webb City claiming the victory. The story was all the same this year, except this time, the Cardinals didn't need extra time to pull off the win.
Webb City started off with aggressive offense. The team finished with 14 total shots on goal. Dakota DeGraffenreid had several looks the entire night, finishing with 8 shots.
DeGraffenreid earned the first score of the night in the 30th minute. A Ruby Channel free kick created the opportunity for DeGraffenreid to squeak in a score in the swarm of players near the goal. The score gave Webb City a 1-nil lead.
Addie Brown had a nice game, gathering 6 saves on the night. The lone score she couldn't save came during the 49th minute. Carl Junction's Ella Anderson took advantage of the chaos and was all alone to let her get the easy score. The game was then tied 1-1.
Both teams kept the pressure, but DeGraffenreid sealed the 2-1 victory with a long-range goal in the 68th minute.
Webb City hits the road again Friday for a matchup against McDonald County. Kick-off is at 6 PM.
