The Cardinals steadily pulled away from the Eagles in the first half, leading by 11 after one and growing it to 15 at half 34-19. It was a 29 point explosion in the third quarter, including a string of 20 unanswered, that put the game away. The Cardinals held the Eagles scoreless for a four minute stretch as they put the 20-0 run together. Starting with an Adalyn Maxwell bucket, Addie Burns hit a three, Abby Sargent with bucket, then Maxwell back with a free throw and a goal, Brecklynn Sargent followed with a hoop and harm, a three from the corner from Whitlee Keith and finished with a pair of free throws and a bucket from Kenzie Horn. With the running clock, the Cardinals only scored six in the fourth, but it was a pair of threes, one each from the seniors Bailey Packard and Kylee Sargent.
Team Stats
The Cardinals hit 6-13 from long range, while limiting Joplin to only 1-9. Webb City got to the free throw line 24 times, converting 17. The Eagles only shot eight free throws on the night, making five. Webb City also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Eagles 35-20. Webb City scored on 32 of their 60 possessions, while allowing the Eagles to only score on 17 of the 59 chances.
Post season play begins next week with the Cardinals facing Willard in the opening round of districts in a game to be played at Hillcrest.
