Lady Cards push top ranked Kickapoo, fall 64-51

The Lady Cardinals battled top ranked Class 6 Kickapoo on even terms for most of the game before falling 64-51 at home on Monday night.  The loss snapped a six game winning streak.

Webb City jumped on the Chiefs from the start, turning up the defensive pressure and taking a 7-0 lead in the first three minutes.  A bucket from Kickapoo temporarily slowed the Cardinals, but they responded with back to back buckets pushing the lead to 11-2 midway through the quarter and ended the first with a 15-7 advantage.  The only blemish in the quarter was an uncharacteristic 2 of 9 from the free throw line or the lead could have been expanded.

The Cardinals offense has been accustomed to blitzing teams with multiple 10 point or better runs this season, but it was Kickapoo that found a 14-0 run in the early stages of the second quarter, turning the nine point Cardinal lead into a five point deficit.   A late bucket from Adalyn Maxwell left the Cardinals trailing by seven at the break.

Webb City would close to within four points on one occasion, but the Chiefs were able to keep the Cardinals at arms length for the remainder of the second half.

Abby Sargent and Brecklynn Sargent each netted 13, with Addie Burns netting 10 while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.  Kenzie Horn finished with 8 on the the strength of two long range jumpers and 2-3 from the free throw line.
