Entering tonight, the Lady Cardinals had the top ranked offense in all of Class 5, scoring an average of nearly 65 points per game. In the game at Nixa, it took nearly four minutes before the offense could record their first point, two Abby Sargent free throws. There were only two minutes remaining in the quarter before they tallied their first basket from the field. Even with lack of offensive production, the Cardinals only trailed 11-8 at the and of one.
The second quarter was the most productive, as they scored 15 while holding Nixa to only eight and went to the locker room with a 23-20 lead.
The chill returned to the Cardinal offense in the third quarter as they were scoreless for the first five minutes before a pair of free throws were followed by their only field goal a minute later for the only four points of the period. Nixa was a little better and pulled out to a 34-27 lead.
A early fourth quarter run got Webb City back to within two points at 37-35, but Nixa responded and kept them at bay pinning a 48-40 loss on the Cardinals, their lowest offensive showing of the season.
Abby Sargent and Addie Burns both ended with a double-double. Sargent with 14 points and 12 rebounds, Burns tallied 13 and grabbed 10 rebounds. While the Cardinals were 11-14 from the free throw line, they were were only 14 of 49 from the field including 1 of 23 from long range.
The Cardinals will be back at home to take on Thursday night to take on Waynesville.
