Playing to a 27-27 stalemate in the first half, the Lady Cardinals scored first in the second half and then never trailed again in a 59-50 win at Willard.
The first half featured 11 different lead changes, with neither team leading by more than six. Willard's offensive strategy was to launch shots from long range where in the first quarter they were four of eight and took a 16-15 lead. Cooling off somewhat in the second quarter, where they only hit two of their next seven, it was those two at the end of the half on back to back shots that erased a six point Webb City and left the game tied at intermission.
The Cardinals took control right at the opening of the second half. Adalyn Maxwell scored the first four points before a Tiger triple cut the lead back to a single digit. A couple of free throws from Addie Burns and another Tiger basket was the last time Willard would be that close. The Cardinals built a nine point lead midway through the fourth quarter and, after Willard was forced to foul, converted 8-12 from the free throw line to seal the win.
Addie Burns and Adalyn Maxwell both recorded double-doubles on the night. Burns with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Adalyn had career best 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Abby Sargent took the scoring honors with 19, including a 9-12 night from the charity stripe.
Webb City will open a four game home stand on Monday night when Parkview visits the DOME with a 5:30 tip.
