In a game of odds and evens, Cardinals prevail

The Lady Cardinals won both the second and fourth quarters and pulled out a 59-53 win over Carthage inside the Dome on Tuesday night.

The first quarter was all Carthage as they shot their way into a 22-10 lead, hitting 5 of 6 from three point range and 7 of 8 from the free throw line.  The Cardinals were only 5 of 13 from the field, committed 5 turnovers and were out rebounded 11-4.

An inspired start to the second quarter saw the Cardinals hold the Tigers scoreless for almost six minutes as they went on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 22-18.  Limiting the Tigers to 2-9 shooting in the quarter, Webb City got as close as one point before a last second shot from Carthage pushed the half time score to 28-25.  The Cardinals had won the quarter 15-6.

The third quarter wasn't looking good for the home team as the Tigers pushed their lead back out to ten points and finished the quarter leading 43-35.

Scoring the first bucket of the fourth pushed the Tiger lead back to ten points.  But then the Cardinals scoring barrage began.  Hitting five of their next six shots, a 12-2 run tied the game at 47 with less than 3 minutes left to play.  After a missed shot from the Tigers, Abby Sargent found Adalyn Maxwell for the go ahead bucket and a three pointer followed from Whitlee Keith giving the Cardinals their biggest lead at 53-48.  With the Tigers now forced to foul, the Cardinals closed it out by shooting 5 of 6 from the free throw line.

Abby Sargent led the scoring with 23 points with Brecklynn Sargent netting 10 points off the bench.  Adalyn Maxwell grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots on the evening.

The Cardinasl will be at Willard on Friday night with their final regular season road game.
