Cardinals advance to championship

Webb City sank 14 treys in  handling Oklahoma City Classen 93-64 in a girls semifinal in the Kansas National Guard Invitational on Friday at Frontenac High School.

The Cardinals (12-3) seek the title against Blue Valley Southwest at 4 p.m. today.

Classen, 16-3, is the No. 11 Class 4A team in Oklahoma. 

Said Webb City coach Brad Shorter: "It was a big win. We beat an outstanding team. We played very well. We played as a team. We took good shots. We continue to improve."

Kaitlin Beason and Mikaela Burgess each hit five 3s against Classen. Lexey Kneib added three and Megan Heman had one.

All-stater Burgess scored 27 points and Desirea Buerge joined Beason with 23. Kneib had 13.

In the opening game of the tournament against Hogan Prep from Kansas City, Burgess had five treys in scoring 29 and added seven steals. Beason snagged 14 rebounds and combined with Buerge for 27 points. Heman and Lacy Resa had four assists apiece.
