The Lady Cardinals survive a last second shot attempt to turn back Smithville 54-53 and advance to the championship game of the MSHSAA Class 4 state tournament.
Webb City (25-5) started quickly with two back to back three point plays to begin the game and held a 15-10 lead over the Warriors (25-5) after the first quarter of play. The Warriors were able to close the gap over the third quarter and took a quick two point lead early in the fourth. A Mikaela Burgess three put the Cardinals back into the lead, but the game was tied once again with 2:00 minutes remaining 49-49. A bucket from Megan Heman and free throws from Casey Heger and Desirae Buerge provided the final points for the Cardinals. Smithville forced a turnover and had a final chance with only 4 seconds left, missing at the buzzer and sending the Cardinals to finals.
Webb City will face the top ranked and undefeated Incarnate Word Academy at 4:50 on Saturday.
