Down 1-0 entering the sixth inning, the Cardinals had been held to only two hits, but Abby Sargent led off the bottom of the sixth with a line drive double over the Eagle centerfielder. One out later Lily Hall blasted a 1-1 pitch over the left center field wall and delivered the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.
A pitcher's duel though the first four innings, both teams had only recorded two hits each and only one runner had reached second base.
Nixa was able to break through first with a one out single in the fifth followed by a double. Starting pitcher Laney Taylor limited the damage securing the final out. Karsyn Cahoon took over in the circle and was helped out by defensive gem from freshman Chasney Brown who, after snaring a line drive in left, fired across the diamond in time to double off the Eagle runner and end the inning.
Cahoon earned the win in relief, striking out two. Taylor threw the first five innings, striking out four without issuing a walk.
