Webb City's quest for a district championship ended in heartbreaking fashion.
Webb City (18-11-1) had a five-run lead early in the game, as Haidyn Berry launched a three-run home run in the first inning before the Cardinals added two runs in the second on Renae Gillmore's RBI single and Berry's sacrifice fly, with Karson Culver and Darcy Darnell scoring.
Republic plated five unanswered runs to tie the game, as Riley Laub hit a three-run home run in the second before Julia Higgins connected for a game-tying two-run blast in the third.
Webb City took the lead in the sixth, as Keira Jackson tripled to right field and later came home on a throwing error. But Republic's Megan Thorne tied the game in the bottom half with a solo home run to left.
After the Cardinals stranded two on-base in the top of the seventh, the Tigers pushed across the winning tally in the bottom half.
Laub singled to left, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and then took third on a groundout. With two outs, Weis' fly ball found a hole in left-center, ending the game.
Berry was charged with the loss after surrendering six earned runs on nine hits. She struck out seven. A sophomore, Berry went 2-for-3 with four RBI. Stacy Tyndall and Gillmore added two hits apiece for the Cardinals.
