Haidyn Berry was stellar in the circle and at the plate as second-seeded Webb City rolled to a 9-0 victory over third-seeded Carthage in a semifinal contest of the Class 4 District 11 softball tournament on Thursday at Republic High School. The Cardinals face No. 1 seed Republic at 5 tonight for the district championship. Republic advanced with an 11-1 win over No. 5 Willard.
A sophomore, Berry earned the complete game shutout victory after limiting the Tigers to two hits while striking out seven. Berry also recorded three singles with an RBI and a run scored.
Renae Gillmore went 3-for-4 with two RBI for the Cardinals, while Quincie Capron, Keira Jackson and Darcy Darnell all contributed two hits apiece.
The Cardinals (18-10-1) plated a single tally in the bottom of the first inning, as Gillmore doubled to center and later scored on Berry's RBI single.
One inning later, Jackson's RBI single, Darnell's run-scoring triple and Gillmore's double gave the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
Capron delivered an RBI single in the third before the Cardinals put together a four run-fifth inning, as Stacy Tyndall launched a tworun home run, Darnell hit an RBI single and Gillmore contributed a run-scoring ground out.
