Lady Cards win home opener

Lady Cards win home opener

The Lady Cardinals (5-2) scored in every inning in capturing the home and conference opener 11-1 over the Branson Pirates.

Webb City erased an early 1-0 deficit when Lacy Resa doubled over the left fielder in the bottom of the first inning and scored on a Desirae Buerge two out - two strike single back up the middle.  Emily Harris scored Burge and Morgan Lammey, who had reached on a bunt single, with a ground ball off the third baseman.

Megan Heman laced a double down the right field line in the bottom of the second and moved to third on an Asia Bemo single.  Resa then drilled a three run home run over the left center field fence.

Morgan Lammey led off the third with a triple to the right field fence and scored on a Harris single.  Samantha Gilstrap was hit by a pitch and Amanda Wallace drew a walk to load the bases.  Resa then coaxed a two out walk to force in the second run of the inning and after three the score was 8-1.

Burge and Harris scored runs in the fourth and Harris ended the game in the fifth inning with a single to left scoring Kaitlin Beason, who had doubled to start the inning.

Lammey finished the day with four hits, including a triple and Resa and Harris both collected two hits each.

Beason and Kyra Parker combined to limit the Pirates to just five hits while recording six strike outs.

The forecast of rain from what is left of Hurricane Issac has changed the schedule for this weekend as the team will travel to Jefferson City tomorrow morning for double header with Helias.
