The Lady Cardinals made short work of the East Newton Patriots in winning their season opener 15-0 in three innings.
Asia Bemo walked and advanced to second on Lacy Resa single in the first and a walk to Chelsea Smith loaded the bases with two outs, however, the Patriots only allowed one run as Bemo scored on a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals took command of the game in a big second inning as they sent 13 hitters to the plate, scoring ten times. Every hitter in the lineup scored at least once in the inning. The inning started quietly as Courtney Jones led off with a bunt single, but one out later back to back walks to Kambry Cooper and Bemo loaded the bases and Resa ripped a single to center that was misplayed, scoring three. Laney Kneib singled to center and Alexah Replogle was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with runners again. Smith singled home one run and Lexie Gardner singled back up the middle, which was once again misplayed and three more runs scored. Jones walked and Kyra Parker followed with a double off the center field fence. Bemo knocked in the final run of the inning with a single.
The game ended in the bottom of the third as Coach Resa starting pinch hitting for his starters and the scoring just kept going. Mikaela Burgess started the inning with a walk and Amanda Wallace reached on an error with Burgess reaching third base. Mollie Peoples scored Burgess with a sacrifice fly to right. Megan Heman reached with two outs and Samantha Gilstrap was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Kyra Parker walked forcing in a run and Cooper ended the game with a double.
Parker also picked up the win with a three inning no-hitter.
Prior to the game Coach Walter Resa and Coach Kathy Harris were honored with plaques for their success, acknowleding Coach Resa's 400 wins.
The Cardinals travel to Aurora on Tuesday.
