The Lady Cardinals finished second at the Joplin Tournament on Saturday. They defeated Bartlesville 4-3 in a semi-final matchup before losing to Blue Springs 5-1 in the championship.
Webb City opened the championship with a 1-0 lead when Shelby Stuck was hit by a pitch, stole second and when Blue Springs couldn't handle Morgan Coleman's bunt the fielding error allowed Stuck to score. Laney Kneib kept Blue Springs scoreless through three innings, stranding two runners. Blue Springs struck in the fourth using a lead off walk and three consecutive singles to plate the tying run before a one out double cleared the bases. The Cardinals finished with seven hits on the game, but stranded runners at third base in each of last three innings.
The Lady Cardinals had reached the championship game with a 4-3 comeback win over Bartlesville earlier in the day. They scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, aided by two Bruin errors.
The softball Cardinals return to action on Monday as they travel to East Newton in a non-conference matchup to begin at 4:30.
