Tucker Palone paces Cardinal swimmers to victory

Tucker Palone picked up four first-place finishes, leading the Cardinals to the team championship Saturday in the Carthage Invitational boys prep swimming meet.

The Cardinals scored 357 points in the nine-team meet, medaling in 17 times in 11 different events.  They were followed by Carthage 270, Ozark 189 and Joplin 166.

Palone won the 200 freestyle (1 minute, 58.44 seconds) and the 500 free (5:24.28), and he was a member of the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams. Nathan Schultz, Jacob Schultz and Hayden Hickman swam the final three legs to win the 200 medley relay (1:47.83), and J.Schultz, Dalton Ferguson and Jacques Bene swam the first three legs of the 400 free relay (3:40.05).

Webb City also recorded six second-place finishes — N.Schultz in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, J.Schultz in the 100 butterlfy and 100 backstroke, Ferguson in the 50 free and Bene in the 500 free.

The Cardinals will return to the pool when they host six teams, Carthage, Seymour, Parkview, Lamar, Nevada and Joplin, on Tuesday.
