Cardinals unable to overcome first half dry spell, falls to Putnam City

With all the success the Cardinals have enjoyed at the Frontenac tournament, the Saturday afternoon game is the one that somehow seems to elude them.  Even with an eighth consecutive trip to the championship game, Webb City was hoping to finish with the title for only the second time.  Putnam City would be the third different Oklahoma school that the Cardinals have played in the finals.

It was a poor shooting first half, only 2 of 11 in the first quarter and only 6 of 20 at the break, that left the Cardinals trailing 30-18 at the break. The Pirates maintained the double digit lead for the majority of the second half as the Cardinals fell 58-48 in the championship match of the Frontenac tournament.

Eli Pace led the team in scoring with 22 before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.  Holton Keith, held way below his season average, was the only other double digit scorer at 13.  Mason Young had another good game on the boards, grabbing a team high eight to go along with his seven points.

Webb City now ventures into the land of the COC with trips to Central and Republic this week.  An additional game has now been added to schedule for next Saturday as the Cardinals will take on Fair Grove with the game to be played at Missions University in Springfield.
