Cardinals earn homecoming victory

Cardinals earn homecoming victory

Webb City shut out Willard to earn a 42-0 victory.

The Cardinal defense recovered a bad snap on the second play of the game to set up the offense at the 12 yard line.  Two plays later Keaton Burroughs opened the scoring with a 6 yard run.

After a series of turnovers and punts, the offense found the end zone on one play when Hunter VanLue scampered 67 yards to the end zone and the Cardinals led 14-0 after the first quarter.

A Keaton Marsh interception set up the Cardinals at the Webb City 38 yard line.  After picking up a first down Burroughts broke free on a 45 yard touchdown run and a Cory Duley extra point made the score 21-0.

A five yard Tiger punt that went out of bounds at the own 38 yard line gave the Cardinals another scoring chance just before halftime.  They only 5 plays and 1:04 to cover the 38 yards and a held a 28-0 half time lead.

The Tigers caught the Cardinals by surprise with a onside kick to open the second half that they recovered at the 40 yard line.  The defense allowed one first down before forcing the Tigers to give the ball up on downs at the 20 yard line.

The Webb City offense then drove 80 yards in nine plays to extend the lead to 35-0.  The big play of the drive was a 30 yard pass from Andrew Greek to Derick Newby who outjumped the defensive back to haul in the catch.

Caleb Ensminger rounded out the scoring with a 27 yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

Burroughs led the team in rushing with 111 and three touchdowns, while VanLue added 78 yards and two scores.

Webb City will travel to Neosho next Friday.
