Webb City powers past Republic

Webb City powers past Republic

On a cool evening, the Cardinal running game heated up the scoreboard with a 49-14 win at Republic.

Webb City took their opening possession of the game and marched 65 yards in 8 plays to open the scoring.

After the Tigers were able to tie the game at 7-7, Kiante Hardin picked up the kickoff off the bounce and ran straight up the middle 86 yards to give the Cardinals the lead 14-7.

The Cardinal offense stopped themselves twice in the first half with fumbles, but managed to score again before half covering 84 yards in only five plays.  The big play was run from quarterback Tyson Roderique deep into Tiger territory and Keaton Burroughs finished the drive with a 12 yard touchdown run.  Cory Duley connected for his third of seven extra points for a 21-7 lead.

The Tigers threatened to close the gap just before halftime, but on third down play the Cardinal defense came through with a big sack, backing the Tigers up and a hurried field goal attempt was missed.

With the Webb City defense forcing punts in the second half, the offense scored four more times. Roderique, Burroughs and Kaleb Potts each capped off scoring drives of 5 plays, 9 plays and 8 plays.  The final touchdown was a seventy yard dash from Burroughs after the defense forced a Tiger fumble.

Webb City (4-0, 2-0) returns home next week to entertain the Nixa Eagles.
