The Cardinals claimed the COC West title with a perfect 6-0 record after a 1-0 win over Joplin.
Mason Young worked out of bases loaded jam in the first inning and then held the Eagles in check, scattering five hits in the complete game shutout.
A walk and two base hits had the Eagles poised to score in the first with one out. Young then got a strikeout and soft line drive to short to end the inning. He got his second strikeout in the second to help strand a runner at second. The Eagles did not get another runner into scoring position until seventh. Holding the 1-0 lead, Young surrendered a lead off double. After a fly ball out, the Eagles ran themselves into an out. On a ground ball to short, the runner on second took off for third. Braden Strickland, after fielding the ball, calmly tossed it over to Barret Weller to tag out the runner.
The Cardinals mustered just enough offense for the win. Held hitless until the fourth, Lake Johnson was hit to start the inning. One out later, Mason Young was hit, putting two on. Braden Strickland doubled over the center fielder's head to score Johnson.
Dawson McMullen reached base three times, hit by a pitch and two walks. Mason Young and Strickland each reached twice.
The Cardinals have their final regular season home game on Thursday when the Seneca indians come to town.
