A mid March baseball game played on a sunny 80 degree day would have only been better with a Cardinal win. Webb City was held to only three hits and surrendered a couple of unearned runs in losing 2-0 to Carl Junction.
A pitchers duel through four innings, starter Mason Young matched the Bulldog hurler in putting up zero's on the board. Young limited the Bulldogs to two hits, both in the opening frame, struck out three without issuing a walk. However, the Cardinal offense had only one hit in their first four innings. Tate Lewis entered in the fifth was touched for unearned run in the frame. A single to left and a bobble allowed the Bulldog runner to second. A sac bunt and a sac fly to right put the first run on the board. Another unearned run in the sixth, this due to a throwing error and the Cardinals were down 2-0.
Webb City did not go down quietly. In the sixth, Barret Weller led off with a single, and with second base stolen, overslid the bag was ruled out. In the seventh, the Cardinals actually had the tying runs in scoring position with only one out. Trevor Lofland reached base with a one out hit and Bryer Robinson walked to put two aboard. Pinch runners Karsen Myers and Barek Hoffman pulled off a double steal putting runners at second and third with only one out. A strike out and ground ball out brought the game to a close.
Webb City will travel to Bentonville on Friday.
