The Cardinals outlasted the Joplin Eagles on Tuesday 7-4 in 9 innings.
Webb City scored once in the first and added three more in the fourth before the Eagles caught them with a 4 run outburst in their half of the sixth inning. A leadoff walk in the top of the ninth started the winning rally.
Trey Gibson reached first on an error with one out in the first. Blake Smith, running for Gibson, then stole second and third on consecutive pitches and scored on a wild pitch to give the Cardinals a quick 1-0 lead.
Designated hitter Mark Duley reached on another Eagle error to start the fourth inning, moving to second as Channing Mickey drew a one out walk. A single to left by Tanner Jones loaded the bases. Jacob Lammey walked to force in Duley with second Cardinal run. Webb City scored their next two runs when a ground ball from Chris Wallace was thrown away for the second Eagle error of the inning.
Starting pitcher Tanner Lane cruised through the first five innings on the mound. The Eagles finally got on the board in the sixth. A single to open the inning was followed one out later by Joplin stringing together three hits in a row and a RBI ground out tied the game 4-4.
Lammey walked to open the ninth and Caleb Ensminger reached on throwing error. Wallace drove in the go ahead run with a single to left. Will Larson reached on the sixth Eagle error as Ensminger scored. Mark Duley drove in the final run with a single to center field.
Logan VanWey worked the final two innings to earn the win.
Webb City (5-1) will return home on Thursday to face Neosho.
