Cardinals defeat Republic

Cardinals defeat Republic

The Cardinals defeated the Republic Tigers in a central ozarks conference game on Thursday afternoon.

Webb City scored twice in the first to grab the early lead.  Austin Carter, Calem Nutting and Cade Crouch each singled with Carter scoring on the Crouch base hit.  Andrew Greek drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly to center for the quice 2-0 lead.

The Tigers were able to cut the lead in half in the third, but the Cardinals answered back in the fourth.  Crouch singled to open the inning, advancing to second on a Greek bunt.  He scored from second base when the Tigers were unable to complete a double play on a ground ball from Cooper Strasser.

After Republic again was able to make it a one run game, Webb City used a two out double from Nutting to drive in Tyler Davison for their final run.

Carter, Nutting and Crouch each had two hits for Webb City.

Joseph Jones picked up the win for the Cardinals as Trenton Moeller earned the save pitching the last 2 and 2/3 innings.  Jones allowed only four hits and struck out six before running into a little trouble in the fifth, issuing back to back walks.  Moeller was able to wiggle out of the jam, allowing only one of the runners to score.  He then pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh.

Webb City, (15-6) will travel to Springfield on Saturday for two games, before returning home next Tuesday for the final home game of the season.  The team will honor its seniors after the game.
